Hello hello! Final update from Terr before I transfer my (admittedly limited) powers as webmaster to the Assistant Music Director Kylia. Disclaimer: this post may be more fourth year event laden than the usual Palpittations post. Also longer since it's been a while.
So graduation happened (wait wut?!) on Mon 5/22 and speaking as one of the graduating students involved in Palpittations it was an honor to sing the national anthem as well as the University of Pittsburgh school song at such a momentous event filled with friends and family. Over the last few years we’ve each grown in a multitude of ways both in medical knowledge and in life, and I trust wherever we end up we can and will make a difference in the lives of our patients and in the lives of others.

Phew, well that big milestone event aside, our graduating class also upheld the annual tradition of putting on a purely student run musical Scope and Scalpel- the longest running amateur musical production in Pittsburgh highlighting the PittMed School experience through intriguing variations on a theme. With the chosen 2017 theme Lord of the Rings, Scope and Scalpel: Lord of the Ring-Enhancing Lesions hit the big stage the weekend before graduation with several Palpittations members quite happily involved in singing, writing, orchestrating, dancing, etc. This is the same show that Palpittations helped raise monies for during the spring concert.
^happy palpi members below stage during S&S
Shout out to Palpittations members Kendra in the steadfast lead role of Samwise Gangrene (Samwise Gamgee), Colin with his fantastic portrayal of Gollumbar Stenosis (Gollum), and Andrea with her keen sensibility of Arwencephalitis (Arwen). I also had a blast singing a special rendition of Rachel Platten’s “Fight Song” aptly called “White Coat Song” alongside former Palpittations member Sameera Nadimpalli, as well as working with the writing team on the script. Also kudos to our Music Director Michael killin’ it on piano, and Internal President Josh keeping it real with dem drums.
While alas the show is over, there are DVD copies available for purchase! Please contact the ever amazing producer Eva Urrechaga ([email protected] ) up until 5/25 or her rising protégé Zean Chen ([email protected] ) after 5/25 if you would like a copy. The entire production team, cast, and crew truly put their all into it and it very much comes through.
Finally, I will leave you with this photo of Palpittations members looking sharp to lend their voices to the Ceremony of Remembrance which took place earlier in May. The ceremony honors those who gave their bodies in service of medical education. We remain ever thankful for their sacrifice!

Hi All!
The concert yesterday was super fun! Thank you to all who came out to listen to us and contribute to the bake sale. We raised around $250 for Scope and Scalpel. While it was bittersweet in some ways given our spring concert is also the one we say goodbye to graduating seniors, it was overall a great time and we're happy to have shared it with you. To recap the senior songs: Andrea Chai sounded absolutely incandescent on her cover of "Flashlight" , Kendra Parker-Pitts wowed with her spunky rendition of "Before He Cheats", and Terry Kho (myself) had a delightful time singing "Still Falling For You" with everyone in this music group I have come to admire and love.
With the spring concert also comes a regime change! The current exec board (our fearless leader/music director Anna Ramos, playful/fun assistant music director Sabrina Karim, fairly hilarious external president Erica Corredera and ever smooth singer/internal president John Michael Taormina) have done a great job and will be retiring with Michael Belsky taking over as Music Director, Kylia Williams as Assistant Music Director, Aaron Landau as External President, and Joshua Zollman as Internal President.
On a related note: it has been wonderful serving as your webmaster. As a graduating senior I will (at some point) be handing over the reigns to another member of PalPITTations (TBD by the powers that be). Thank you for your attention - there will be more gigs this semester so stay tuned!
Terry

Thank you to the librarians of Falk library for welcoming us with open arms (and delicious cookies!) to the annual Holiday Health Sciences Library Concert. We look forward to this gig each year to help spread holiday cheer during the glum days of finals week. To those who braved the cold/were able to take a small break from studying to hear us sing, we hope that you enjoyed listening as much as we enjoyed caroling for you!

A giant thank you to everyone who made it out to the concert Friday! We raised just over $1300 in one fell swoop through ticket and bake sales for the Birmingham and Women's Clinics and it was all thanks to you! For those of you who came, we hope you left with happy hearts and well fed tummies. Shout out to our alumni Isabela and Sameera; familiar faces we are always happy to see :). Also special shout out to our graduating senior Clare! She killed it as always with her song "Walkin' in Memphis," singing her awesome tenor voice and rockin' the blue suede shoes. We wish you the best in your career in public health! |

Big big BIG thank you to all who came out to our Doc-Appella concert yesterday!!
The soloists were phenomenal, the harmonists were spot on, and the block blended fantastically. We even had some alumni come back and sing along :)
Our graduating seniors performed amazingly: Morgan Soloman with a delightful and heartfelt performance of "Mexico", Isabela Negrin with an incredibly touching rendition of "Fix You", and Amanda Aninwene nailing the sonorous "Breathe Again". It's been said and aca-believe it - last night was possibly the best concert we've had in years. And there will be more years to come! Thank you for joining us for the evening and we hope to see you again.

Bravo to comedian Kim Coles for balancing hilarity with reminders on how to lead heart healthy lives, as well as to our very own Eva Chernoff and John Michael Taormina for their excellent and inspiring solos.
